I began my exploration of Cochise County by booking 14 nights in Benson AZ at an Encore resort which is an extension of my Thousand Trails membership. Valley Vista RV Resort doesn't have endless amenities that become maintenance nightmares or campers that haven't moved in 30 years but rather a perfectly sized incredibly well maintained piece of property with a very friendly staff. The resort is age qualified (55+) with 145 sites. I'm in a pull through site near the front that is shallow yet wide enough to park the truck along side the trailer. This is perfect for my 26' trailer and I really like this setup which allows for convenient loading of the truck and Barron for day trips. Cable TV here is fantastic and there are WiFi plans available which I did not use. There is a small pool and hot tub deck, showers in the main building, clubhouse with some amenities, and a Coin Operated Laundry Room. Love That!

There is a hiking trail loop adjacent to the property own by the electric company next door, Thouchstone Energy. This is maintained as an area for employees to exercise but the visitors at Valley Vista RV are welcome to use the area. I'm guessing it's about one half mile around so take a lap or as many as you wish. Dogs are welcome with the reminder to clean up after your pets. I kept Barron on a short lease and wore high top hiking boots each time because it's a guarantee that there are rattle snakes here. The resort is less than a mile from the main intersection in Benson. There are restaurants and fast food joints all along the main drag in Benson and the Walmart super center is less than 3 miles from Valley Vista. I will definitely return to Valley Vista RV Resort.

This State Park, the surrounding mountains, and the campground are all Stunning! I intended to book 7 nights at Kartchner Caverns State Park located just a few miles south of Benson AZ. I waited too late and had to book my 7 nights in 3 different sites. A little extra moving around but well worth it. I paid $30 per night for two nights at site 5, one night at site 51, and four nights at site 32. All sites had heavy duty iron picnic tables, nice iron fire pits, and recently refinished asphalt pads. All sites are water and electric with any easy to access dump station as you exit the campground. The hiking trails are fantastic and the Foothills Loop is featured below. The site map link below has additional information as well as a map of the hiking trails and it appears that all trails allow you to bring your dog on a leash. The State Park sits at over 4,700 feet in altitude and being here in late October, I didn't run my trailer AC but maybe two hours all week. Each night was between 33 & 44 degrees just prior to dawn so have your heating plan in place.
Kartchner Caverns Campground Site 5
The biggest draws at Kartchner Caverns State Park are the caves named one of the top ten caves in the US. There are three different tours:
Even if you're not going to explore the caves, the State Park is the destination with it's wonderful campground, hiking trails, and high desert nature vibe.
The park is 10 miles from Benson with ample shopping and restaurants. Be aware that the closest convenience store is 9 miles in either direction so load up on supplies
before you get here. There is the Bat Cave Cafe in the Visitor center so if you're looking for a $6 hot dog and a $2 water, you're in luck. I will return to Kartchner Caverns!
Rotunda/Throne Tour - 1 hour 30 mins is $23 for adults and $13 for kids.
Big Room Tour - 1 hour 45 mins is $23 for adults and $13 for kids.
Helmet & Headlamp Tour - 1 hour 15 mins is $30 ages 10 and up.
These tours do not allow cameras or cell phones so there are no photos to offer you. The park does offer a Photo Tour every third Saturday at
a cost of $125 per person. Must be 18 or older to participate in the Photo Tour.

I booked 14 nights in Casa Grande AZ at an Encore resort which is an extension of my Thousand Trails membership. Located almost exactly half way between downtown Tucson and downtown Phoenix, Fiesta Grande RV Resort is truly a resort. First, the resort is very large with 766 sites with roughly half being permanent structures. Unlike some other resorts, all of these permanent structures are incredibly well maintained. The RV sites are fine gravel with concrete patios and wider than usual. My particular site was a 90 degree site on a road with a 6 foot block wall on the opposite side of the road making backing in around the tree on one side quite difficult. Once I dropped the trailer, my site was perfect. Each pedestal I observed has cable coax connections but a search for cable channels found 1 channel with contact information for setting up service with Cox Communications. A search for over the air TV found 60+ channels out of the Phoenix DMA.
Fiesta Grande RV Resort Site 567
To describe Fiesta Grande as amenity rich is an understatement. There are two heated swimming pools, a jacuzzi, pickle-ball courts, putting green, golf practice net/cage, eight horseshoe pits, eight shuffleboard courts, lending library, and a huge clubhouse for activities. There are plenty of restaurants, banks, and shopping within walking distance and virtually everything you can imagine is within 2 miles. The closest Walmart super center is only a half a mile away. If you're looking for plenty of activities without much driving or a perfect stop to take care of online work, look no further. I did visit two other Encore RV parks in Casa Grande, Casita Verde RV Resort & Foothills West RV Resort. Both of these are on the outskirts of town and I'm glad I saw these properties in person. I will definitely return to Fiesta Grande RV Resort.

There is plenty of BLM land in the area allowing 14 days stays at no charge. There is also the Long Term Visitor Area (LTVA) operated by the BLM. Boondockers can stay in the LTVA for $40 up to 14 nights or pay a $180 permit fee for 7 months. I stayed in the La Posa West LTVA for 7 nights primarily because of it's proxcimity to town. If you have a problem with dust and being dusty for most of your stay then desert boondocking may not be for you. If you can handle the dust, you can boondock from September 15th to April 15th for $180. This includes LTVA locations in other areas too. In Arizona, La Posa LTVA and Imperial Dam LTVA. In California, Hot Spring LTVA, Tamarisk LTVA, Pilot Knob LTVA, Midland LTVA, and Mule Mountain LTVA. The La Posa LTVA, located in Quartzsite, has a dump station with fresh water at La Posa South and trash dumpster at each location. There are also vault toilets and water spigots scattered throughout La Posa. The check-in station at each entrance gave me some sense of security if only as a deterrence. BIG COMPLAINT! - The Water was off for the last two days and the dump station was closed. Because it was Thanksgiving Day, local dump stations were closed so I had to travel with full waste tanks!

I booked 14 nights at the Araby Acres Encore Resort in Yuma AZ part of my Winter Program hanging out as far south a possible. In November of last year, I drove down to Yuma from Quartzsite to preview six Encore resorts and decided then to stay at Araby Acres first when in Yuma. Although most of the sites here have permanent trailers, there are plenty of spots for us traveling RVs. Much like Fiesta Grande RV Resort, Araby Acres is is truly a resort and the staff and neighbors are the nicest we've seen throughout our travels. The resort is age-qualified with 337 sites in total. I would save half of the cars in the resort are from Canada. There are 2 Pools, a Clubhouse, a Fitness Center, Whirlpool/Spa/Hot Tub, Street Curling, Shuffleboard, Horseshoes, Laundry Facilities, Billiards Room, Card Room, Business Center, Restroom & Shower Facilities, and a Picnic & BBQ Area. There are no Tennis or Pickle Ball Courts. Pets are welcome and Araby Acres has by far the largest dog park we've seen at any campground. I estimate it to be 200 yards by 40 yards. The location is great with plenty of food options nearby and Walmart is just over a mile down 32nd St.

I booked 7 nights at the Navajoland Hotel and RV Park in Tuba City, AZ as a launch point to visit a number of landmarks covering a large area. The campground has a few amenities including a coin operated laundry room, Shower and Bathroom House, small Dog Park, and a picnic table at each site. There is a Restaurant, Coffee Shop and Convenience Store nearby. I had site 6 which was level and my leveling blocks were not needed. My full hookup site was $32.00 per night. Unlike some of the negative reviews I read, I found Navajoland RV Park to be very comfortable and reasonable priced. The historic Tuba City Trading Post is adjacent to the property. The Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree are all within walking distance, and Bashes grocery store is just 1.6 miles away. There are a few restaurants in town and many fast food options. The city is in the Navajo Nation so there are no alcohol sales in the entire area. Although this was a good launch point for many destinations, I think next time I'll try and stay a little closer to Page and Glen Canyon to do more in the immediate area.

I booked 13 nights at Mesa Spirit Encore RV Resort in Mesa, AZ. This Encore resort is massive and at 1,667 sites it is by far the largest
I've ever seen. You will have no trouble getting your steps in
around this flat, well lit complex. As far as amenities, I can't think of
a single activity or perk that is missing here. There are 8 dog parks, 3 swimming pools, a number of hot tubs, and at least 3 laundry rooms using
the CSCPay Mobile app. There are park models here but also an incredible number of dedicated RV sites. There are a few pull through sites
but most are back-in like mine. There are Pickleball courts, Tennis courts, Mini-Golf, Shuffleboard, shaded Picnic Areas, Bocce Ball, and
so much more. With a population nearing 5 million in the Phoenix metro, local TV channels are abundant. I was able to load 101 channels on my
antenna TV search. Verizon reception was 4 bars and each site seemed to have a clear northward view for the Starlink. Being in the heart of Mesa with exits
onto both Main Street and University Drive, every imaginable restaurant, fast food and grocery store is close by. Mesa Spirit is a great RV
Resort in a region filled with great places to stay.

I encountered triple digit temperatures during my first 7 of 13 days in Mesa so I decided not to boondock in Quartzsite this time. I was able to book a week at Holiday Palms RV Park on a weekly rate which worked out to be about $35 per night plus tax with my Good Sam discount. My arrival in Quartzsite was 3 weeks earlier this year than last and the town was much less crowded and quite a bit warmer. Mental note firmly planted. Holiday Palms is nice compared to most everything else in town and I really have no complaints. I was surprised how fast Starlink is with my potential deprioritization Roam account. Despite the large number of RVers in the area I didn't see many Starlink dishes. The park does have cable TV which allowed me to watch the World Series during my stay. Last year, Blog 13, an Over the Air TV search returned Zero channels. The park did have a free Truck / Car washing station which I gratefully used after six weeks in the desert. There is a very functional coin operated laundry room and treated drinking water is only $1 for 5 gallons. For the price I found my stay in Quartzsite better this year at Holiday Palms rather than boondocking in the low desert. High desert and/or forested areas are more my taste in boondocking.

Verde Ranch is truly an RV Resort located on the Verde River designed for everyone including families. There are 382 sites and a near endless number of
amenities including Pickleball, Heated Pool, fantastic Dog Park, Splash Pad, Hot Tubs, Large Clubhouse, Arcade, Bocce Ball, Business Center, Laundry Facility,
Bathhouses, and more! There are 16 fully furnished vacation cabins and several Glamping Covered Wagon for those wanting to enjoy the resort but do not have
an RV. There is a food truck called Fork in the Road located near the Clubhouse but it is quite pricey. I was there during Halloween week and there were
many, many Halloween related activities each day. If you Opt-In on the text notifications you will receive notice of each activity. My site, 247, was not
completely level but I was able to quickly level up with my Andersen Hitches Leveling Blocks. I have visited six campgrounds in six towns over the past
month all being over a mile in elevation. Camp Verde AZ is only 3,147 feet above sea level and I can breath and move so much better here. Weekly rates
here have a 25% discount and I paid $360 for the week. The monthly rates are very reasonable for this quality of resort so I would love to return for a
month next time. Highly recommend!

I spent 14 nights at Meridian RV Resort in Apache Junction AZ as part of my Thousand Trails membership at no cost. The amenities here are first rate but
I was disappointed with the sites. Most of the 258 sites, including mine, have a 4-foot wide concrete entrance area to the RV between the tow vehicle and
the RV. This is not enough room for any usable patio area so I never took any of my patio supplies out of the truck for my 2 weeks. The Resort has a great
dog park we visited twice per day and although I registered with a dog, my site was as far as possible from the dog park yet the area around the dog park
was almost empty. There is one central building in the center with a very nice pool, hot tub, putting green, billiards room, laundry room, and more. I was
crowded into one rear corner of the Resort with others packed with vehicles. The sites are 90 degrees to the street, no angled sites, so with the crowded
corner my site was extremely hard to back in. The resort is less than 2 miles from the Superstition Gateway shopping area in Mesa with everything you might
need. There is also an Apache Junction Walmart with other shopping less than 2 miles away.

I chose Mountain View RV Park for my week out of the Thousand Trails system mainly because it's only 8 miles from Sierra Vista. I visited the area 2 years ago and really liked Sierra Vista. The RV park has everything you need without the resort amenities and the resort prices. Mountain View has NO park models but there are quite a few monthly renters here including soldiers working at Fort Huachuca. There is a real positive community feel here with the longer term folks and I was told the monthly rate is around $400 plus electricity. My week stay here was $257 dollars tax and electricity included which was a great value considering the long and level pull through site. There is an office/clubhouse, two shower and bath houses with laundry, and a wealth of space to walk your dog including 2 off leash dog runs. The park is 22 miles to Tombstone, 60 miles to Tucson, 42 miles to Bisbee, and 10 miles to Kartchner Caverns. Mountain View is directly behind R.V. City Sales & Service which made refilling my propane tanks quick and easy. Strongly recommend Mountain View RV Park!

I spent 14 nights at Voyager RV Resort & Hotel in Tucson, AZ as part of my Thousand Trails membership at no additional cost. As I arrived and setup, I knew
this place was different and with the past 2 month marathon I decided not to blog Tucson and enjoy the resort. This is the nicest RV resort
I've ever booked considering amenities, the incredible well manicured grounds, and the efficiency of the staff. The resort has 667 RV sites surrounding
the main resort hub and over 1000 park models surrounding the RV areas. I booked a premium pull through site that must be 90 feet long. Amazing! There are
sixteen pickle-ball courts, 3 Tennis Courts, indoor and outdoor Swimming Pools, Billiards Room, Fitness Center, Health Clinic, Spa Services, 9-Hole Golf Course
with Pro Shop, Fat Willy's Clubhouse Bar & Grill, Market and Gift Shop, 2 Laundromats, Card Rooms, Boccie Courts, Shuffleboard Courts, and much much more. The
staff here is very friendly and helpful. The Resort is in a great location about 15 miles southeast of the Tucson city center and the closest Walmart is about
7.5 miles away. If you like the Resort RV living, I can't think of a nicer place. Highly Recommended!

I stayed here overnight as the first stop on a cross country trip from Palm Springs to Birmingham. I know Benson so this park was easy for me to find. There are many park models but there are a couple of dedicated areas for traveling RVs. $27 for the night using my Passport America membership.
