March 2023
Zion West RV Park
Leeds Utah

From Mesquite I headed northeast back through the northwestern corner of Arizona and climbing through the Stunning Virgin River Gorge. The Virgin River created the topography of both the Gorge and Zion National Park. I booked 3 nights at Zion West RV Park located in Leeds Utah just 8 miles north of St. George Utah. The trip from Mesquite to Zion West was only 54 miles. There isn't much in Leeds but everything you might need is just a few miles south on I15 in St. George. Zion West is short on amenities but there is a nice laundry room and the Free WiFi was surprisingly fast throughout the Park. I didn't book this stay for amenities; I wanted a single launch point for Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. It's 31 miles to the Springdale Zion Park National Park entrance and 127 miles to Bryce Canyon National Park through the Panguitch Utah route. You can of course find accommodations closer to each but I don't mind a single stay with day trips. Zion West RV Park served that purpose well for me.

September 2023
Old West RV Park & Cabins
Monticello Utah

I tried for some time to book 4 nights in Moab fearing that late September would still be too warm to boondock. There were plenty of sites available for 25 feet and less but nothing for my trailer. In the end I booked 4 night at Old West RV Park & Cabins in Monticello Utah 50 miles south of Moab. Monticello is a small quiet town settled by LDS pioneers in the 1880s. Old West is in the center of the small town and offers full hookup RV sites, Cabins, and Canvas Tents, and a great little dog park. A couple of blocks down Main Street there is a fun little grocery store called Blue Mountain Foods with most everything and some items unique to the area. Being the only real option close by it is a little pricey so you may want to load the RV on the way to Monticello. This town is a great launch location for Arches and Canyonlands. I really enjoyed my stay at Old West RV Park & Cabins and would defiantly stay here again.

Nov 2025
Salt Lake City KOA
Salt Lake City, Utah

I booked 4 nights at the Salt Lake City KOA as I continue my trip south before the snow flies. This park is very nice considering it's basically an intercity campground. It's packed with really nice amenities that seems to cover everyone. The sites are various sizes and pull-through site 1122 was just long enough for my truck and trailer. The dirt patio on my site was the only letdown. There is a whole row of small sites that attract camper vans. My site was $86.50 per night and considering the location and amenities I didn't mind paying what I normally consider too high. The WiFi was pretty good as the canopy over most sites makes Starlink impossible. I also used my Verizon Hotspot which had a lightning fast 5G connection. They also have coax cable here but the over the air channel search loaded 120 channels so I never hooked up to cable. This is a nice place to stay after you get over the sticker shock.
