Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino

Not gonna lie, I've become a fan of Casino boondocking and Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino in Laughlin Nevada is fantastic and free! Although the signs all mention a 14 day limit, they have recently reduced that to 7 days with the potential to extend. Check-in is a process. First, pick an open numbered spot and pull in. Second, get your free player's card from the casino. Third, call security so they can come out and inspect you space. They will document you driver's license, your RV insurance, and your RV registration. If boondocking is not your jam, the resort owns and operates a 740 site full hookup RV park just across the street. The resort has many restaurants and pubs and there are 5 other resorts close by, some in walking distance. Inside Riverside Resort there is of course a casino but much more. There are 2 Pools, a Celebrity Theater for live shows, Riverside Cinemas with 6 theaters, 34-Lane Bowling Center, several bars, Losers' Lounge with Live Bands, a Day Spa, USS Riverside boat tours on the Colorado River, and much more.

Lake Havasu City
Lake Havasu City Arizona

Lake Havasu City is a fantastic destination for RVers looking for outdoor recreation with a wide selection of camping options. It is a northwestern Arizona desert town so winter and the shoulder seasons are nice but the June through September average highs are well over 100 degrees. The city is a great launching point for hiking, biking, boating, and other water sports. It's also home to the world famous London Bridge which originally spanned the River Thames in London England. There is an English Village at the base of the bridge with a visitors center, several gift shops, several breweries, boutique shops, and restaurants. The London Bridge spans the Bridgewater Channel from the mainland to The Island. The Bridgewater Channel has a nice walking trail on both sides of the bridge. The Island side of the channel has a fantastic park as well as the London Bridge Beach.

  Lake Havasu City Arizona

The Island itself is another fascinating place with the 3.6 mile paved Island Trail Loop. If you don't have the time or energy for the loop trail, the road around the island mostly follows the trail. Pedestrians are asked to travel in a counter-clockwise direction while bicyclists ride clockwise. There is camping on the island as well as many other options around town. The island is also home to some very expensive looking real estate and nearly every home you see on the island has an RV garage. Lake Havasu City is also home to a BLM Field Office and as you might imagine there are a number of free BLM camping areas near town. If you would like to save $20, skip the State Park and go to the Rotary Community Park instead. The 40 acre city park is on the water, fantastic tree lined trails, loads of green grass, and a beach. I plan to return to Lake Havasu City and spend a little more time!

Laughlin & Bullhead City

At the junction of Arizona, Nevada, and California along the Colorado River are several towns that are perfect for RVers looking for comfort in the winter and shoulder seasons. Laughlin Nevada and Bullhead City Arizona are sister towns separated by a 100 yard river. Being in Nevada, Laughlin has several large casino resorts at the river's edge. The resort strip in Laughlin has some really high-end dining options in and around the casinos. Bullhead City, where the fuel is cheaper, has all the big box stores and fast food options. There are no shortage of camping options in the twin cities although I elected to dry camp at The Riverside Hotel & Casino. Judging from the number of water sports rental shops in Bullhead City, much like Lake Havasu City, I imagine the river is really busy during the shoulder seasons and the summer although I can't see myself here in the dead of summer. I spent 6 nights in Laughlin because I was halted in Parker AZ for one night by a wind and dust storm on my trip from Yuma.All in all, this area is Perfect for those of us chasing 70 degrees.

Lake Mohave
Bullhead City AZ

Katherine Landing at Lake Mohave is managed by The Lake Mead National Recreation Area and as such offers Free entry with the National Parks Pass. If you do not have a National Parks Pass, (Why?) there is a $25 fee per vehicle for a 7 day pass. Located just a few minutes from both Bullhead City AZ and Laughlin NV, Katherine Landing has a marina, boat launches, fishing dock, beaches, picnic areas, hiking trails, a 51-room lodge, boat and equipment rentals, dining cafe, and a fuel dock. There are 173 camping sites and a 24-site full hookup RV Park. During my visit I noticed a number of different renovation projects. Also located with this National Recreation Fee Area beaches and boat launches at Telephone Cove, Cabinsite Point, and Princess Cove. Lake Mohave has a total storage capacity of 1,818,300 acre-feet and was created by Davis Dam. Lake Mohave has a maximum depth of 120 feet.
